My Professional and Neurodivergent Journey
Professionally, I am an Early Childhood Teacher with professional and personal lived experience of Neurodivergence. One of my future goals is to complete a Post/Grad in Mental Health.
My Professional Development focuses on Autism/ADHD/Inclusive Education/Interoception/ Sensory Processing/Disability rights and Advocacy. Several Australian Autistic-led Organisations such as, Reframing Autism and Yellow Ladybugs have been a big part of my Professional Development. These organisations have an abundance of neurodiversity-affirming resources, podcasts, conferences, workshops and courses. I attend a variety of these regularly such as the annual Yellow Ladybug conferences and workshops focusing on a range of topics such as Demand Avoidance, Interoception and Autistic Communication - just to name a few! |
During my free time I love using art and music as a self-regulating strategy. Language and communication have always sparked my interest, especially different forms of communication such as, baby/toddler Sign Language.
Fun Facts: - Australia is my second home - I grew up bilingually. I'm fluent in English and German. I love changing the colour of my hair on a regular basis! |
On a personal note - I am a late-diagnosed/identified Autistic and ADHD mother of two Neurodivergent children. My journey to discovering my Neurodivergent self was through the long and challenging process of seeking and having my children diagnosed in the hope that this would help enable them with more support in the school system.
This is where finding to my true self, as well as having to search and find the "right" information to advocate for my children, all started. It was (and still is), an often overwhelming road to travel and a lot of information out there was not exactly neuro-affirming or in the best interests of my children. Finding my "tribe" of like-minded people and eventually finding the help and support that accommodated my family in the best possible way, took a long time of trial and errors. |
I am passionate about sharing my personal lived experience as well as integrating my professional knowledge and experience to help and support other parents like me, that are now in a similar situation to what I was.
I would like to give back to the Neurodivergent Community and help others as much as I can. For me, being different is wonderful! Warmly, Kris (she/they) |
